ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two members of the Dawlah Islamiyah and two supporters have surrendered to military authorities in the province of Lanao del Sur, an official said Wednesday.

Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva, Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion commander, identified the Dawlah Islamiyah surrenderers as Camar Gampong Musa and Nasroding Comayog Patilan while the supporters as Badroding Gampong Patilan and Pacalinog Patila.

Villanueva said they turned over one M-16 “Baby” Armalite rifle, a .45-caliber pistol and ammunition when they surrendered around 3:30 p.m. Monday in Barangay Cromatan, Masiu, Lanao del Sur.

He said the four were placed under custodial debriefing.

Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, has called on the other members of the Dawlah Islamiyah, formerly known as the Maute group, to surrender to live a peaceful life.

“We continuously encourage local terrorist groups and their supporters to surrender and submit themselves to the folds of the law in order to make their community peaceful,” Cuerpo said.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., 1st Infantry Division acting commander, commended the efforts of the troops for the surrender of local terrorist members and their supporters.

Gaerlan also thank the local government and other stakeholders for their continued trust and support the troops “in contributing peace and development in the whole province of Lanao del Sur.” (PNA)
