BUTUAN CITY – Commuters and travelers in Butuan City and the rest of the Caraga Region can now tap the services of new taxicabs that recently been granted franchise by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in the region (LTFRB-13).

The new taxi units are operated by the Balangay Transport Service Cooperative (BALTRANSCO).

Juanito Ubas, chairperson of BALTRANSCO in a statement on their Facebook account, said a total of 13 taxi units will initially serve the commuters starting Saturday, November 16.

LTFRB-13 has granted the franchise to 50 taxi units of BALTRANSCO, which will serve the route from Butuan City to any part of Caraga.

As a preliminary measure, LTFRB-13 has inspected and calibrated the new taxi units on Friday.

In an interview on Saturday, the Department of Transportation Caraga (DOTr-13) acting director Nordy Plaza welcomed the operation of the taxis in Butuan City.

“Commuters really need the services of taxis especially in going to or coming from airport, ports and public terminal,” Plaza said.

He also assured the public that the Land Transportation Office in the region (LTO-13) has given ample information to drivers on road safety and matters that concern the safety of passengers.

“You have to pass an examination before you are given a driver’s license,” Plaza said.

Information drives on road safety are continuously done in the respective LTO district offices in the region, he added. (PNA)
