ILOILO CITY -- Some 1,147 uniformed personnel of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) have been promoted to the next higher rank.

The newly promoted police personnel received their new ranks in an oath-taking ceremony and pinning of rank insignias at the PRO 6 headquarters in Camp Martin Delgado here on Monday.

Lt. Col. Joem Malong, PRO 6 spokesperson, said in a phone interview Monday police corporal who advanced to police staff sergeant made up the most number of promotions with 440.

With the promotions, PRO 6 now has 156 new police corporal, 100 police master sergeant, 72 senior master sergeant, 148 chief master sergeant, and 231 police executive master sergeant.

“Their new ranks are effective Nov. 21,” Malong said, adding the ranks boost the morale of the promoted officers.

“On the part of the PRO 6, we will be expecting more coming from these personnel in terms of their day-to-day activities and their work as police officers,” she said.

Citing PRO 6 regional director, Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan, Malong said the newly promoted uniformed personnel must always remember that police rank entails responsibilities and not a mere embellishment.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Remus Zacharias Canieso, PRO 6 deputy regional director for administration, received his new assignment as the executive officer of the directorate for plans at the Philippine National Police Headquarters effective November 21.

Malong said Canieso was suited for the new assignment as he has shown his active service in PRO 6.

“He will be the man of plans, and we know, if you are assigned on the plans, they are the think-tank of the organization. They make policies, change policies, and study what is best for the PNP,” she said.

Col. Alexander Sampaga will be designated as the acting deputy regional director for administration of PRO 6. He is expected to report at PRO 6 headquarters within the week, Malong said. (PNA)
