ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The City Health Office has already reached 90 percent of its target to immunized through the conduct of “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” in this southern port city.

Dr. Dulce Amore Miravite, City Health Officer, said Monday they have already vaccinated 90,000 children since the start of the immunization campaign against police on November 25. The activity ends on December 7.

Miravite said they are targeting to immunize 102,000 children aged zero to 59 months old.

She stressed the need to conduct a "relentless" vaccination because there are already eight children from different places in the country who were afflicted with the poliovirus.

She noted that the polio cases resurfaced 19 years after the Philippines has been declared as a polio-free country.

“The latest recorded case is a 9-year-old girl in Maluso, Basilan, who was confirmed to been afflicted with (the) poliovirus,” she said.

The health official said they have established Patak Centers at the Integrated Bus Terminal, local wharf, malls, health centers, and hospitals to be able to immunize as many children as possible. (PNA)
