Cops seize grenade, shabu in Zambo anti-drug ops

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Police seized an explosive and a firearm in separate anti-drug operations that also resulted in the arrest of three people and confiscation of more than PHP100,000 illegal-drugs in the Zamboanga Peninsula, an official said Tuesday.

Maj. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, said caught in possession of a grenade and a .38-caliber revolver with ammunition was Romeo Awid, 53, a traffic enforcer of Sodaco Company.

Also recovered from the possession of Awid were some PHP5,000 worth of suspected shabu and PHP500 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 8 p.m. Monday in Sitio Quarry, Barangay Kilalaban, Baliguian, Zamboanga del Norte, she said.

Galvez identified the other two suspects as Alnadzker Timpahan Dammang, 29; and Rey-Al Julian Macrohon, 34, who were separately arrested in this southern port city.

Seized from Dammang were some PHP75,000 worth of suspected shabu and PHP200 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 12:45 p.m. Monday in Purok 7, Barangay Recodo here, police said.

Police said Macrohon was arrested, also in a buy-bust operation, around 8 p.m. in Sagrada Drive, Barangay Camino Nuevo, this city.

Recovered from Macrohon’s possession were some PHP25,000 worth of suspected shabu and PHP200 marked money, police said.

Galvez said formal charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects. (PNA)
