PALO, Leyte -- The new look of the upgraded public market's main building that features state-of-the-art facilities is gaining a lot of attention on social media.

This after several groups and individuals have posted photos online of the new market building expressing positive reactions to its aesthetic improvements.

A Facebook (FB) post of Radio Mindanao Network Tacloban featuring the renovated market has been shared over 500 times already, with around 4,300 likes, and almost 200 comments.

“Oh wow! Amazing transformation since I left Palo, my home town. Great job!” said Facebook user Trina Tomlinson in her comment.

In their comments, Lourdes Cummins said the place looks like Italy while Iday Abejuro said she loves its Turkish touch.

Sandy Malbas, on the other hand, reacted on the post of All About Palo FB Page. “I am looking forward to seeing this new public market on my next vacation,” Malbas said on his comment.

Myrna Espina, a Leyte native who is in Italy now, said in her comment that cleanliness of the area should be maintained, congratulating the people of Palo for having that kind of structure.

A similar FB post of Karl Rodney Cañete that features the public market with caption #PaloNowIsWow has already garnered over 1,000 shares, 553 likes, and 92 comments.

In an interview on Wednesday, Mayor Ann Petilla said the idea and the design of the new public market are from her mother-in-law, former town mayor Remedios Petilla.

“She is very particular when it comes to design and aesthetics. It is like we are opening a mall actually. It is very challenging for us that is why we have to conduct several studies and discussions,” the town mayor said.

The new public market has undergone a major facelift after suffering heavy damage in 2013 due to Super Typhoon Yolanda.

The two-story building has over 400 stalls, a park located in the open-air atrium of the building with food stalls and a center stage surrounded with water fountains, and an elevator to accommodate elderly, pregnant and persons with disabilities.

Clifford Nabora, a Grade 3 pupil, said it is a great place to stay with friends and families adding that he will no longer be playing at the public plaza where he still has to cross a highway to get there.

The new public facility opened on December 15. It is located in Cavite East village here and is only a few minutes away from Tacloban City, the regional capital. (PNA)
