GUMACA, Quezon — Curfew violators in this town learned a hard lesson Sunday night after they defied the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew hours as part of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine against Covid-19.
Roving police officers and barangay officials arrested 16 males and three females loitering on the streets during the curfew hours.
Mayor Webster Letargo decided to teach the violators a lesson. Instead of bringing them to jail, he placed them outside the municipal hall, seating on plastic chairs one meter apart as prescribed by the social distancing measure and left them there for the night.
They earlier did some push-ups and jumping jacks after which were reprimanded by the authorities for not cooperating with the government.
The violators were released before the curfew hours ended and told to stay home.
In Lucena City, 18 persons from different barangays (villages) were also arrested Sunday night for defying the curfew.
Almost all the 33 barangays of Lucena City are now implementing a lockdown, with all entry points barricaded.
