BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 13 (Caraga) has released the national government’s emergency cash assistance to more than 179,000 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) under the Modified Conditional Cash Transfer (MCCT) and the Regular CCT.

In a statement issued on Thursday, DSWD-13 said the cash aid is part of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the government aimed to support the most affected families of the continued implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Each beneficiary received PHP3,650, which is part of the PHP5,000 total aid, it said.

In the statement, DSWD-13 Director Mita Chuchi Lim said as stipulated in Republic Act 11469, or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, the subsidy shall amount to PHP5,000 a month.

The subsidy will run for two months to provide basic food, medicines, and hygienic necessities to the 4Ps beneficiaries, Lim added.

“For 4Ps beneficiaries who do not have a cash card yet, we shall facilitate the immediate distribution of their assistance. We will find the most favorable way of doing so,” she said.

Among the 4Ps beneficiaries who received the cash assistance was Gina Fe Salvoro, 42, a resident of Carmen, Surigao del Sur.

In the same statement, Salvoro thanked the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte for the assistance her family received amid the health crisis.

“Grabe gayud kini kadako nga abag sa among pamilya ilabi na sa panahon karon na nagka-krisis na tungod sa Covid-19 (This is of great help to our family, especially now that we are facing a crisis because of Covid-19),” Salvoro said.

She also commended the DSWD personnel, the local government unit (LGU) of Carmen, and the Philippine National Police for the effective systems they have implemented for the process of withdrawing the cash assistance.

DSWD-13 said the agency’s cash assistance is among the number of programs of the different agencies of the government, including the departments of labor, agriculture, and trade.

The programs, it added, are part of the SAP, which has specific target sectors.

“The DSWD’s focus is those informal sectors, which include the poorest of the poor families in the country, including those of the vulnerable sectors,” the DSWD said. (PNA)
