ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) said six policemen have been identified as suspected 2019 coronavirus (Covid-2019) cases, one of whom was admitted but has already been discharged from the hospital.

PRO-9 also listed 38 as persons under monitoring (PUM) as of April 8 in the region, although the Department of Health (DOH) has already dropped the category under its new classification system. They have already undergone the 21-day quarantine and have been cleared by health authorities.

Maj. Helen Galvez, PRO-9 information officer, said Saturday that five of the suspected Covid-19 cases are on home quarantine and do not exhibit symptoms but are constantly being monitored.

Galvez said the police officer who has already been discharged from the hospital has previous health problems has a travel history in Manila.

She said most of the former PUMs are newly-hired policemen who have recently completed training and have served as front-liners in different checkpoints in the region.

Meanwhile, she said the PRO-9 has assigned some 400 new policemen as augmentation force to the Zamboanga City Police Office.

She said the police personnel are temporarily housed at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex as a precautionary measure to prevent them from mixing up with the other policemen inside the camps. (PNA)
