CEBU CITY – Mayor Edgardo Labella on Friday placed six sitios (sub-villages) in Barangay Tejero here under enforced lockdown following a surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, the city legal officer said.

Lawyer Rey Gealon, Labella’s designated spokesperson, told reporters here that latest data from the Cebu City Health Department (CCHD) showed three new Covid-19 infections, bringing to 75 the total number of positive cases in the six sitios in Tejero as of Friday.

Gealon identified the sitios under lockdown as Vilgon with 195 households; ICM, 122 households; Daclan, 193 households; Sampaguita, 420 households; Looban, 99 households; and Bacaros, 11 households.

"Tungod sa pagsaka sa kaso sa barangay Tejero, umon ka mga sitio niini ang ipaubos sa lockdown sugod karong udto. Mimando si Mayor Labella nga padad-an og tabang ang barangay Tejero (Due to the increasing number of cases in [Barangay] Tejero, the six sitios will be placed under lockdown starting Friday noon. Mayor Labella ordered to send assistance to Barangay Tejero)," he said.

As of press time, the city government delivered 550 sacks of rice, 11,000 canned goods, noodles, and face masks to the barangay.

“The affected residents in the six sitios must strictly stay in their respective homes and will not be allowed to go outside their respective homes even if they have quarantine passes,” Labella said in a statement posted in the Cebu City Public Information Office social media page.

As agreed in a meeting with the police and the barangay officials, a temporary detention center will be placed in Tejero for those who would violate the lockdown guidelines, he said.
