BUTUAN CITY – At least 1,500 residents of Sison, Surigao del Sur are set to be part of a communal livelihood gardening project that will provide them an income of PHP2,400 after 10 days of work.

Sison Mayor Karissa Fetalvero-Paronia told the Philippine News Agency on Thursday that residents in four barangays in her town will take part in the project.

“We already conducted the orientation today (June 18) and soon after we will start the communal vegetable gardening,” Paronia said.

She added that residents from Poblacion, San Pablo, Biyadid, and Tagbayani are the main beneficiaries of the project.

“Around 800 residents from Barangay Poblacion will be part of this project, the rest will be from the three other barangays,” Paronia said.

The beneficiaries of the program will be involved in land preparation, planting of vegetables, and maintenance of the project, she added.

The project will be implemented with the support of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) with an allocation of PHP3.6 million.

“Sison is a small town classified as 5th class municipality. Despite our situation, we want to ensure that our constituents will have livelihood especially in this time of the pandemic,” she said.

She added that the project will not only provide income to her constituents but will also ensure the availability of vegetables in the area. (PNA)
