CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – The city government here has reimposed a liquor ban and curfew in an effort to address the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

City Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara issued Executive Order No. 2020-13 entitled "Imposition of liquor ban and citywide curfew within the City of Cabanatuan" that sets the curfew from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., effective Saturday, July 11.

The order noted a significant increase in the number of positive cases of Covid-19 here, citing mass gathering as "one of its probable causes".

This city now has 28 cases of coronavirus.

Any violator may face imprisonment and/or fine "as may be imposable under the existing laws, rules and regulations."

Violation of the ordinance may also result in revocation of business permits where violator is an establishment.

Two more confirmed Covid-19 cases were reported in the province by the Nueva Ecija Inter-Agency Task Force (NEIATF), raising the total number to 94 on Sunday.

Patient No. 93 is 46-year-old female vendor from Barangay San Pedro while Patient No. 94 is a 55-year-old female seamstress from Barangay San Isidro, both in Sta. Rosa town, this province. They are both admitted at the Nueva Ecija Doctors Hospital.

On Saturday, the NEIATF reported that two sea-based workers were found positive for Covid-19.

Patient No. 91 is a 30-year-old from Barangay Pinanggaan, Jaen town, who is now quarantined in a facility in Manila.

Patient No. 92, on the other hand, is a 50-year-old resident of Barangay Doña Lucia in Quezon town who is under strict home quarantine.

Both patients have travelled to Metro Manila and are asymptomatic. (PNA)
