MANILA – A low-pressure area (LPA) and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Palawan and Mindanao will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, a weather specialist said Thursday.

The LPA was last spotted 420 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and is embedded in the ITCZ.

Ezra Bulquerin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA has a low chance of becoming a tropical depression.

The rest of the country, he said, will have fair weather. "Thunderstorms may still be experienced in the afternoon," he added.

PAGASA also forecast isolated rain showers over Luzon and Visayas.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail over the whole archipelago. (PNA)
