DPWH building 23 more quarantine facilities in NCR

MANILA – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar on Tuesday said they are building over 20 additional quarantine facilities in different parts of Metro Manila.

“DPWH is now constructing 23 Quarantine Facilities in National Capital Region (NCR). We are now doing site development at Arkong Bato National High School Valenzuela. #BuildBuildBuild #WeHealAsOnePH,” Villar said in a Facebook post.

On Monday, Villar said they are looking to complete the 23 additional coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) quarantine facilities in NCR before the end of August.

He added that new facilities are being fast-tracked as the Department of Health (DOH) recently announced that coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) hospital bed occupancy rate in Metro Manila has reached more than 70 percent.

"Come August and we will have eight additional isolation and quarantine facilities in Quezon City; four in Pasay City; two in Pateros; and one each in Manila City, Marikina, Parañaque, Makati, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Malabon and Navotas with total bed capacity of 2,417," Villar said.

In Quezon City, the ongoing projects include the 270-bed capacity Tandang Sora Senior High School Quarantine Facility, 427-bed capacity Emilio Jacinto Senior High School in Pasong Tamo, 44-bed capacity converted container van at Quezon City General Hospital.

Also, the 64-bed capacity converted container van at Quezon City University; 16-bed capacity converted container van at the House of Representatives; and 48- bed capacity each at the AFP Medical Hospital Compound, Quezon Institute Hospital Compound and Camp Aguinaldo Hospital Compound.

Pasay City will soon have a converted container van facility with a 172-bed capacity near W Mall along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City, 72-bed capacity at Villamor Air Base, 70-cubicle facility at Pasay City Sports Complex with two nurse stations and 276-bed capacity facility at the Folk Arts Theater with five nurse stations.

Additional facilities will also be completed in Pateros including the two 64-bed capacity facilities at Ramos Pateros Elementary School.

A new 58-bed capacity facility at Manuel L. Quezon University in Manila City with two nurse stations is also underway along with the 124-bed capacity facility at Barangay Nangka, Marikina City, 56-bed capacity facility with two rooms for health workers each at Parañaque City College and in Makati City, 56-bed capacity facility with four nurse stations at Lingunan National High School Quadrangle in Valenzuela City.

Likewise, being constructed are the 32-bed capacity quarantine facility at Caloocan City North Medical Center, 144-bed capacity facility with three nurse stations at Barangay Tunasan in Muntinlupa City, 88-bed capacity container van in Malabon and another 120-bed capacity facility in Navotas City.

The ongoing facilities in Metro Manila are being implemented by the nine District Engineering Offices of DPWH National Capital Region. (PNA)
