MANILA – An official of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday clarified that the government has no plans to install a toll road along Edsa.

In a statement, the DOTr said the idea was merely a suggestion by “various stakeholders” and does not “automatically” turn into a proposal or a project for implementation.

“Like any project, it has to go through the proper process,” the statement read.

In an interview over Teleradyo, DOTr Road Sector Consultant Assistant Secretary Alberto Suansing said the proposal suggested the establishment of an electronic road pricing during rush hours at EDSA as a means to lessen traffic congestion.

He added that the proposal was not appropriate at this time as it requires a more efficient public transportation system.

“Hindi 'yan nararapat sa panahon dahil hindi pa maayos ang ating public transport system,” Suansing said. (PNA)
