W. Visayas police units told to keep consistent war on drugs

ILOILO CITY – After confiscating PHP64 million worth of illegal drugs this year, the Police Regional Office Western Visayas (PRO 6) on Tuesday advised all its police units to be consistent in their anti-drug war.

PRO 6 spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong said PRO 6 chief, Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan made the reminder in line with the “pivotal three-point strategy” of new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan.

“This (anti-illegal drugs war) is still the focus of the new chief PNP as part of the pivotal three-point strategy of police force in addressing major concerns nowadays on Covid-19 pandemic, anti-illegal drugs, and issues on international security and insurgency,” Malong said.

Malong said PRO 6 has still to run after 711 remaining listed drug personalities based on the data of the Regional Intelligence Division, citing a report during the recent meeting of the Regional Oversight Committee on Illegal Drugs.

The PRO 6 Regional Operations Division said a total of 981 anti-drug operations launched by various police units in the region led to the confiscation of PHP64 million worth of illegal drugs, arrest of 1,377 drug personalities, and death of five drug personalities from January to August this year.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) launched the highest number of anti-illegal drug operations with 436 that resulted in the arrest of 607 drug personalities.

Bacolod City Police Office posted the second highest operations with 244 that led to 382 arrests followed by Iloilo City Police Office with 98 operations and 123 arrested personalities; Capiz Police Provincial Office with 86 operations and 114 arrests; and Iloilo Police Provincial Office with 84 operations and 111 arrests.

On the other hand, Aklan PPO conducted 20 operations with 26 arrests; Antique PPO with 11 and arrested 12; and Guimaras PPO with two operations and two arrested personalities.

The operations netted 456.29 grams of marijuana and 7,141.24 grams of shabu valued at PHP64.41 million based on the Dangerous Drugs Board. (PNA)
