ILOILO CITY – The Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6) said the public should be not be complacent and urged that minimum health standards be followed as coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the region continue to increase.
“We should be worried because all of us are potentially infected. We can get infected by the virus anytime,” said Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, DOH-CHD6 medical officer IV and spokesperson in a virtual presser on Friday.
As of Friday, Western Visayas has 261 new confirmed cases out of the 1,534 test results released by subnational and molecular laboratories from Western Visayas and Cebu City.
Of the new cases, 222 are local, 32 are still for verification, six are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), and one is a returning overseas Filipino (ROF).
“With these new cases, the region has a total of 7,144 confirmed cases; 3,292 are active,” Te said.
Bacolod City has the highest cases with 86; Negros Occidental, 73; Iloilo City, 48; Iloilo province, 26; Capiz, 17; Aklan, seven; Guimaras, three; and Antique has one.
The region has eight new deaths; five from Bacolod City and three from Negros Occidental.
In Bacolod City, the fatalities are an 82-year-old female and 57-year-old male who both died on Sept. 1; 82-year-old female who died Aug. 29; 69-year-old female who died Aug. 30; and a 64-year-old male who passed away on August 31.
On the other hand, deaths from Negros Occidental included a 72-year-old male from Bago City and an 82-year-old male from Talisay, who both died Aug. 31; and a 59-year-old female from Silay City who passed away on August 22.
Te said the region also has 154 new recoveries, increasing the region’s total number of recovered patients to 3,743.
The recoveries were from Bacolod City with 98; Iloilo province, 35; Capiz, nine; Aklan, five; Negros Occidental has three, Antique has two; and one each from Guimaras and Iloilo City. (PNA)
