MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced on Wednesday that national athletes in team sports would also benefit from the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act (Republic Act 11494) or Bayanihan 2.

A total of 199 athletes and 39 coaches in water polo, baseball, dragon boat, handball, ice hockey, softball, underwater hockey, and volleyball are set to receive the remaining 50 percent of their June and July allowances and shall continue to get their full allowance up to December.

“A community coming together really makes a whole lot of difference,” PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said.

Ramirez thanked the legislative chambers and President Rodrigo Duterte for making the Bayanihan 2 possible, as well as Philippine Olympic Committee president and Cavite congressman Abraham Tolentino for the "instrumental help" to finally give the national athletes their full allowances.

Half of the national athletes' allowances have been set aside for additional financial aid for the low-income families affected by the lockdowns imposed by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The PSC received PHP180 million funding under the Bayanihan 2.

The necessary administration to effect the remittance is now being done and is expected to be released by the first week of December, the PSC said. (PNA)
