DAVAO CITY – The Manila Water Foundation donated on Thursday some 5,380 pieces of hand soaps for the city’s “high foot traffic areas” -- the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT), Bankerohan Public Market, and some district schools.

Of the number, 3,680 will be distributed to district schools in Tibungco, Baguio, and Marilog; 850 pieces to DCOTT; and 850 to Bangkerohan Public Market.

Dionisio Abude, chief of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) who received the donated hand soaps, said it is useful for the hygiene/handwashing measure of the passengers before getting on the buses at the terminal.

“This helps a lot, especially to passengers because as of now we have an estimated daily trip of 200 to 300. We have more or less 7,500 passengers daily. So, this will help in their disinfection before they board buses,” he said.

Flagship Program Manager of Manila Water Foundation, Jubail Pasia, said they donated the hand hygiene facilities to help improve sanitation in communities, especially in time of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“With high Covid-19 cases here, we would want to help the city government as well as the education sector, that’s why we provided hand hygiene facilities for the institution and organization in Davao City,” he added.

The Manila Water Foundation is the social development arm of the Manila Water Company to serve waterless and toilet-less communities in the Philippines and neighboring countries. (PNA
