Cops seize P250-K illegally-gathered crablets in Surigao Sur

BUTUAN CITY – The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO) has confiscated an estimated 10,000 pieces of crablets which were about to be shipped out from the province on Thursday evening (Feb. 11).

SDSPPO Director Col. James T. Goforth told the Philippine News Agency that the police personnel in the town of Bayabas received information on the shipment of said crablets from the town.

“Gathering and shipment of crablets are prohibited under Section 3 of Municipal Ordinance No. 08 Series of 2002 of the municipality of Bayabas,” Goforth said o Friday.

A checkpoint was immediately established by the personnel of Bayabas Municipal Police Station (BMPS) at the national highway in Purok 1, Barangay Magobawok after receiving the information.

Also present during the checkpoint operation was Gerra Guibao of the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Bayabas town.

Arrested was Ramel Resullar Quinatac-an, 36, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Placer, Surigao del Norte, the driver of the pick-up truck used in the illegal shipment; and Agustin Abrahano Ramos Jr., 44 from Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

Goforth commended the prompt action of the BMPS that led to the arrest of the suspects and the confiscation of the illegally-gathered crablets.

He also recognized the support of the communities in Bayabas town as shown by the information given to the local police station. (PNA)
