MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Tuesday the seizure of smuggled cigarettes worth PHP30 million at the Manila International Container Port Customs (MICP) in Manila.

In a statement, the bureau said the Port’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) apprehended the shipment on Feb. 9.

It added that the cargo was originally declared as personal effects but was revealed to contain 820 master cases of branded cigarettes upon examination.

The BOC said acting on derogatory information, an alert order was issued against the shipment consigned to a certain MBS Cargo Movers.

The shipment came from China.

Inventory and investigation are being conducted for the filing of cases for the possible violation of Section 1400 of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. (PNA)
