593 new Covid recoveries pad total to more than 648K

MANILA – The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recovery tally improved to 648,220 after the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 593 more survivors.

In its latest case bulletin, the DOH also logged 12,674 new infections and 225 new deaths, raising the active cases to 190,245 and the death toll to 14,744.

To date, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic started in March last year is 853,209, of which 76 percent are recoveries, 22.3 percent are undergoing treatment, and 1.73 percent are fatalities.

The DOH said at least 97.2 percent of the active cases have mild symptoms, 1.7 percent are asymptomatic, 0.4 are critical, 0.5 percent are severe, and 0.26 percent are moderate.

Data based on April 9 reports also showed that 20.7 percent of the 40,868 individuals tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

Currently, the country has utilized 66 percent of the 1,900 intensive care unit beds (ICU); 50 percent of the 13,500 isolation beds; and 51 percent of the 6,000 ward beds dedicated for Covid-19 patients nationwide.

About 46 percent of the 2,000 ventilators for Covid-19 cases are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 86 percent of the 700 ICU beds, 69 percent of the 3,800 isolation beds, and 58 percent of the 2,200 wards beds are occupied.

The DOH reminded the public to stay at home and to strictly follow safety standards set by the government.
