CEBU CITY – An official of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on Thursday lauded the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) for conceptualizing a manual for coordinated vaccination in the region.

“We are very happy because of OPAV, Secretary Mike (Michael Lloyd) Dino, and (Assistant Secretary Anthony Gerard) Jonji Gonzales (for coming up with) I think this is a one of a kind manual in the Philippines and the Visayas vaccine operation center. It’s a very good step in order to synchronize and rationalize the logistics and supply chain of vaccine for our people,” PCOO Undersecretary Ramon Cualoping III said during the Quincentenial Media Literacy and Explain, Explain, Explain activity of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) at the Oakridge in Mandaue City.

Cualoping is the director general of the PIA, an agency tasked by the national government to conduct an information drive and demand-generation for the vaccines.

The PCOO official noted difficulties in the logistical aspect of the vaccination rollout in Metro Manila.

“But here in the Visayas, especial in Cebu province, OPAV, together with the Department of Health, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and the mayors of the tri-cities, I think the rollout will become successful,” he said.

Cualoping, meanwhile, said the national government has guaranteed the Filipinos of “steady supply of vaccines”, and assured that more supplies of Sinovac vaccines from China and Gamaleya’s Sputnik V vaccines from Russia are arriving in the next few weeks.

He reminded the people, however, that despite the ongoing inoculation of the populace, all still needs to observe the minimum public health standards such as wearing of face mask, washing of hands and physical distancing.

He noted that lack of discipline among the people has caused coronavirus transmission.

“That’s our assurance. On behalf of our President, Sen. (Christopher Lawrence) Bong Go and Secretary (Martin) Andanar, we would like to assure everyone that the government is doing everything to mitigate the situation (and) to fix the problem. We are not saying that everything is okay, but we are saying that things are not that so bad,” he said. (PNA)
