ILIGAN CITY--The Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is set to gather barangay officials in Marawi City Thursday to intensify the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) efforts in the grassroots.

Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr., said Wednesday that all Marawi City barangay chairpersons will receive a briefing on their role in controlling the pandemic at the village level.

Currently, Lanao del Sur and Marawi City have 177 active Covid-19 cases, 26 of which were recorded on May 4, according to the city and provincial health authorities.

Provincial Information Officer Jennie Tamano said most of the active cases are from Lanao del Sur municipalities, and 70 from Marawi City.

Adiong reiterated an earlier appeal for residents to consistently adopt minimum health protocols and submit themselves for vaccination, especially senior citizens.

"We have spoken to all the sectors to help us disseminate information on CoViD-19 and how to curb it. We have spoken to the religious and traditional leaders, barangay chairpersons, mayors, media, 2-way radio groups, and Civil Society Organizations," the governor said.

The "no movement on Sunday" policy has been temporarily lifted in Lanao del Sur and Marawi City while the Muslim community celebrates the Holy month of Ramadan. (PNA)
