MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday conducted a symbolic vaccination of education frontliners at Universidad de Manila.

As part of the A4 priority group, five front-liners composed of a janitor, security guard, full-time faculty, information and communications technology director, and employee from the registrar’s office were inoculated.

The group tagged as the "Symbolic Five" were identified as Mary Jane Quintana, Rogelio Garado, Jeffrey Litan, Marjune Del Valle, and Noami Solano.

The event was intended to help boost confidence in the vaccination program as the government prepares to inoculate the next priority group.

Like other front-liners in the education sector, employees of Universidad de Manila continued to work to ensure that their students receive quality education despite restrictions due to the pandemic.

“The symbolic vaccination is our way of giving back to the dedication and service of workers in the education sector,” DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III said.

The activity was also part of the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) 27th founding anniversary week.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11522 in February 2021 declaring the 18th of May as National Higher Education Day.

The A4 priority group also had a simulataneous symbolic vaccination on May 1, Labor Day, for overseas Filipino workers and minimum wage earners. (PR)
