Bulacan gets 111K more Covid-19 vax doses

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – More Bulakenyos in the priority sectors will be vaccinated due to the continuous arrival of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines here from the national government.

In an update, Patricia Alvaro, spokesperson of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), said on Friday a total of 111,200 doses of Covid-19 vaccines arrived this week and were delivered to the Bulacan Vaccination Center in Hiyas ng Bulacan, Convention Center.

Of the total number, Alvaro said 76,800 doses are AstraZeneca vaccines that came in part from the donation of the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) facility of the World Health Organization (WHO) while 34,400 doses are Sinovac jabs purchased by the government from China.

He said the continued arrival of vaccines will speed up the vaccination that could ensure 70 percent herd immunity before the end of the year.

Based on vaccine statistics provided by Bulacan PHO as of May 19, Bulacan received a total of 132,429 Covid-19 vaccine doses -- 55,619 Sinovac vaccines and 76,810 AstraZeneca jabs.

Alvaro also said since the start of the vaccination in the province on March 8, a total of 80,313 Bulakenyos in priority sectors have been vaccinated with the first dose and 19,154 received their second dose.

A total of 27,719 medical and hospital staff front-liners (A1) were vaccinated with the first dose and 6,338 of them received the second dose.

About 16,593 senior citizens (A2) have been vaccinated with the first dose and 1,635 of them have completed the second.

Meanwhile, 11,267 individuals with comorbidities (A3) have been vaccinated with the first dose and 4,930 got their second dose.
Bulacan has also started vaccination of those belonging to the A4 group (front line personnel in essential sectors) with a target of 66,361 individuals.

Some 1,292 A4 individuals were vaccinated with the first dose while 828 of them were done with the second dose.

“Those included in A4 priority group are in the commuter transport sector, market vendors in public and private, those in the manufacturing of food, beverages and pharmaceutical products, those in the service deliveries; hotel workers; leaders of various religions; security guards and those in the private and government media," Alvaro said.

The provincial government also purchased a new biomedical ultra-low temperature freezer in preparation for the arrival of Pfizer vaccines in the province. (PNA)
