DAVAO CITY – At least 858 workers and 57 establishments affected by the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) here have applied for the city government’s emergency employment assistance via the 'Programang Trabaho Dabawenyo' as of June 6.

These applicants are those affected by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Memorandum Circular 21-19 series of 2021 indicating business or industries that are not allowed to operate while the city is under MECQ from June 5 to 20.

Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, in a radio interview Monday, urged Dabawenyos affected by the MECQ to avail of the program.

“We have already directed them to coordinate with the Special Projects Office under the City Mayor’s Office located at Magsaysay Park as this office will provide emergency employment assistance for affected workers whose offices or establishments were temporarily closed due to MECQ,” she added.

Establishments not allowed to open under MECQ based on DTI’s guidelines are indoor non-contact sports courts or venues, fitness studios, gyms, spas, or other leisure centers or facilities; indoor sports, courts or venues for contact sports, scrimmages, games, or activities; indoor visitor or tourist attractions, libraries, archives, museums, galleries, and cultural shows and exhibits; outdoor tourist attractions; venues for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.

Also prohibited to operate under MECQ are other personal care services, which include make-up salons, medical aesthetic clinics, cosmetic or derma clinics, reflexology, aesthetics, wellness, and holistic centers, and similar establishments; acupuncture and electrocautery establishments, and massage therapy including sports therapy establishment; and establishments providing tanning services, body piercings, tattooing, and similar services as well as cinemas, amusement parks or theme parks, casinos, horse racing, lottery and betting shops, and other gaming establishments; recreational venues such as internet cafes, billiard halls, amusement arcades, bowling alleys, and similar venues.

However, the DTI Davao Region, on its website, clarified on June 5 that only beauty salons, beauty parlors, barbershops, and nail spas are allowed to operate at 30 percent of their maximum capacity provided that wearing of face mask and face shield is observed at all times. (PNA)
