MANILA – The Philippine Science High School (PSHS or 'Pisay') System will continue to implement remote learning for all its campuses until December, Department of Science of Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña announced.

In a taped report aired on Friday, he said the move aims to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) among students and teachers.

"We also (considered) the feedback from the students' parents. Most of them are unwilling to have their kids stay in dormitories," de la Peña said.

The official also acknowledged the lack of resources for Covid-19 testing.

He said the PSHS Knowledge Hub website has been offering full flexibility to aid students in their learning experience.

Meanwhile, de la Peña said 5,000 have registered to Pisay's online science communication training for Grade 10 students.

"Around 5,000 participants have registered nationwide for 'PISAYCOM' -- a certificate training course for the Grade 10 students of the Department of Education and the PSHS campuses," he said.

Aside from training and competency building, de la Peña said participants will exhibit their acquired skills through science communication competitions.

"Pisay hopes to equip more Filipino youth who will popularize the socio-economic impact of science to people through PISAYCOM," he said.

PISAYCOM eyes to inspire the youth to communicate science, and also aims to enhance participants’ ability to laymanize science content through multimedia. (PNA)
