MANILA – The first batch of Filipino caregivers to Israel has been dispatched by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Tuesday night.

POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said the 48 workers arrived at the host country on Wednesday.

There are still 355 caregivers that will depart for Israel in the coming weeks.

“The deployment is in accordance with the existing bilateral labor agreement between the Philippines and Israel in 2018, which provides strengthened protection and employment opportunities to Filipino caregivers,” Olalia said in a statement.

The agreement safeguards Filipino caregivers from paying excessive fees to private agencies as the hiring and deployment are under the government-to-government scheme.

The Filipino workers will provide skilled caregiving assistance to persons with disabilities, including the elderly.

The Population and Immigration Authority of Israel intends to recruit about 5,000 more Filipinos, according to the POEA. (PNA)
