CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – Despite the surge of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) disease in this province, the annual celebration of the weeklong Singkaban Festival kicked off on Wednesday to promote Bulacan's rich cultural heritage.

With the theme “Paglingon. Paghilom. Pagbangon,” this year’s Singkaban Festival will instill hope to all Bulakenyos and the will to move forward while remembering the legacy of the province’s colorful history.

All other programs for the weeklong Singkaban Festival will be held online through Facebook, Zoom, and Google Meet.

“Magdiriwang tayo kahit simple lang kasi sa panahon ngayon, humahanap dapat tayo ng pamamaraan kung paano aalalahanin at ipagdiriwang ang mahahalagang bahagi ng ating kasaysayan (Let us celebrate even in a simple way because in this time, we should be looking for ways on how to remember and celebrate the important part of our history,” Governor Daniel Fernando said in an interview.

“Itong Singkaban ay ipinagdiriwang natin para maipaalala sa lahat, na lingunin ‘yung mga masasaya, baunin natin para magamit natin sa paghilom ng lahat ng sakit na iniwan sa atin ng Covid-19. Upang sa ating pagbangon, may matatag tayong pundasyon (We are celebrating this Singkaban to remind all to look back the happy moments and let us take it in order to use in healing all the sickness brought by the Covid-19. So that when we rise up, we have strong foundation),” he said.

The event, greeted with heavy rains due to Typhoon Jolina, started with a Holy Mass held at the Nicanor Abelardo Auditorium, Capitol Compound here and attended by several guests led by Fernando.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held for various activities that include the Singkaban art exhibit, Bulakenyo artists’ art exhibit, museum memorabilia exhibit, and Bulacan festival costume expo.

During the festival, Bulakenyo job seekers are encouraged to take advantage of the "Online Local Recruitment Activity" up to Sept. 10, 2021, and "Online Kabuhayan Fair" from Sept. 13 to 15, 2021 by the Provincial Youth, Sports and Public Employment Service Office (PYSPESO) which are posted and will be streamed online through the Provincial PESO Bulacan Facebook page.

The program aims to provide various job vacancies to Bulakenyos and open new opportunities for those who wanted to start their microbusiness and livelihood which, in turn, will benefit the participating employers looking for qualified workers.

PYSPESO head Kenneth Z. Ocampo-Lantin said the virtual recruitment process will be conducted through vantagehunt.com.

Lantin said job seekers must create their account and pre-register on the registration link posted on their official Facebook page. (PNA)
