MECQ extended in 76 Butuan villages

BUTUAN CITY – The modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in 76 barangays here is extended until September 30 following a rise in coronavirus cases.

In a resolution issued by One Caraga Shield, the regional task force on Covid-19, the extension begins Sept. 23 in the same areas previously placed under MECQ last September 7 until September 22.

Only 10 barangays are under general community quarantine.

Curfew hours are imposed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. and the liquor ban from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The use of color-coded quarantine passes is also extended until the end of the month.

As of Wednesday, the city has a total of 1,603 active cases and 287 deaths and a total tally of 10,284 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began last year.

In the Caraga Region, 704 new Covid-19 infections were recorded, bringing its total cases to 39,643.

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the region also increased to 1,284 with 29 new deaths. Caraga still has 6,713 active cases.

Among the region's cities, 161 new cases were recorded here, 56 in Bayugan, 28 in Bislig, 28 in Cabadbaran, and eight in Surigao. (PNA)
