SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) Antique chapter said Friday 1,584 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) officials in the province have availed of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination in their respective municipalities.

LnB president Pamela Socorro Azucena, in an interview, said as of September 24, a total of 1,497 of them have been fully vaccinated while 87 have received their first dose.

Antique's 18 municipalities consist of 590 barangays.

“The barangay officials who had been fully vaccinated and those who had their first dose are composed of barangay captains, councilors, secretaries, treasurers, and Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons in Antique,” Azucena said.

She added that more barangay captains have expressed their interest to avail of the vaccines after their meeting on September 2 when she urged them to submit themselves for inoculation so that they would have protection against Covid-19 in carrying out their duties and also be effective advocates.

“We have to set ourselves as examples by availing (of) the Covid-19 vaccination so that we could convince also our constituents,” Azucena said, adding that she had requested Integrated Provincial Health Officer (IPHO) chief, Dr. Ric Noel Naciongayo, if they could prioritize the barangay officials in the Covid-19 inoculation.

“Dr. Naciongayo also gave his assurance to give priority to the barangay officials in terms of their Covid-19 vaccine allocation,” she said.

Earlier, the IPHO expressed in one of the meetings of the provincial inter-agency task force that some barangay captains were hesitant to get inoculated. (PNA)
