CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga –The Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD) has called for intensified and collaborative efforts to manage the rising cases of dengue in the region.

Based on the report of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), a total of 6,608 dengue cases were reported in the region from January 1 to June 11, 2022.

The figures are 33 percent lower compared to the same period last year of 9,875.

However, the DOH CLCHD said the current cases have already reached the epidemic threshold for the past eight weeks.

DOH CLCHD Regional Director Corazon Flores urged the barangay officials and community members to remain vigilant against dengue.

She cited the need to heighten the 4S strategy in every community -- Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; Self-protection measures including the use of mosquito repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants; Seek early consultation, and Support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas where an increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.

“Educating each one on the importance of preventing the spread of dengue is a key intervention. Maintaining cleanliness in our homes and community is also one of the most effective ways to ward off dengue. Together, let us continue working for a dengue-free Philippines,” Flores said in a statement on Tuesday.

In 2021, a total of 22,012 dengue cases were recorded in Central Luzon. (PNA)
