BUTUAN CITY – Authorities arrested in an operation Wednesday the “most wanted” carnapping suspect in Agusan del Sur.

Brigadier Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr., the Police Regional Office in Caraga (PRO-13) director, said suspect Roel España, 24, was arrested in an early morning raid in Barangay 3, San Francisco, by a team led by the Agusan del Sur Provincial Highway Patrol.

“The suspect has a standing arrest warrant issued on June 22, 2020 by Regional Trial Court Branch 55 for the violation of Republic Act No. 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016,” Caramat said in a statement.

España was allegedly involved in the carnapping of a motorcycle in Trento, Agusan del Sur, on March 16, 2019.

“After committing the crime, the suspect went into hiding for more than three years and was arrested on July 13,” Caramat said.
