BUTUAN CITY – Authorities arrested a high-value individual (HVI) and seized from him PHP1.7 million worth of shabu during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Barangay Doongan here Wednesday.

In a statement Thursday, Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) director, Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft, identified the arrested HVI only as “Bintong,” 33, of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

“His name emerged from prior apprehensions of drug suspects. Thus, intensified surveillance was conducted, leading to his arrest,” Kraft said, adding that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Butuan City police launched the operation.

Seized from the suspect were 255 grams of shabu, drug paraphernalia, PHP15,000 marked money, and a motorcycle.

The suspect, who is now in police custody, will be charged with violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Bintong is the second HVI arrested by PRO-13 operatives in the region this month.

On April 6, authorities arrested “Natoy,” 41, during a raid in Purok 4, Barangay 10, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, that resulted in the confiscation of PHP156,400 worth of shabu. (PNA)
