BUTUAN CITY – Seventeen-year-old Ronel Suyom of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte, is among the four young boxers from the country who will compete in the upcoming Youth World Boxing Championship in La Nucia, Spain.

The competition, slated from Nov. 14 to 26, will be participated in by young boxers worldwide.

In an interview Friday, Michael Mandahinog of the municipal information office, said Suyom is a pride of the town and the province.

“The local government unit (LGU) of Las Nieves, under the leadership of Mayor Karen Rosales, wishes for the success of Suyom in the forthcoming international boxing competition,” Mandahinog said.

Suyom and his team left the country on Oct. 30 and are now training in Alicante, Spain, in preparation for the competition.

The team is also being supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.

Mandahinog said Suyom sent a message to Rosales on Thursday, thanking the LGU for supporting his trip. (PNA)
