NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro – An PHP11.5 million worth of health facility complete with medical services is expected to be fully operational in this town by July next year.

Senator Christopher Lawrence Go, who led the groundbreaking of the facility site on Thursday in Barangay Manat here, described the super health center as a medium-type polyclinic that is bigger than a rural health center.

"However, it is not bigger than a hospital. I am happy that the Department of Health (DOH) has chosen a strategic area here," he said.

The center will provide all the basic health needs, including specialized health services at the local level such as the outpatient department, laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, birthing services, diagnostic, pharmacy and emergency services, among others.

Divina Sonido, DOH-Davao Region chief of the local health support division, said the construction phase will start in January next year.

"Hopefully, it will be completed in June or July next year," she said.

Sonido said the establishment of the health facility would help decongest other health facilities as it will augment other rural health centers in the province.

The DOH-funded project is under the health facility enhancement program while the other components, particularly the maintenance operation and staffing, will be shouldered by the town government.

"The services are free since it is under the Universal Health Care Act. Our health services know no boundaries, no political colors so all those who come to the health center will be assisted," Sonido said.

Four super health centers are expected to rise in the province next year under the health facility enhancement program. (PNA)
