CEBU CITY – Mayor Michael Rama on Monday said regular and casual employees of Cebu City Hall that have shown “sterling performance” could expect a Charter Day bonus of PHP50,000.

“We gave not less than PHP20,000 bonus. But if it can be done, it would be PHP50,000. Why not? There’s always a thing called ‘the first time’. We will be the first LGU (local government unit) to give that amount, if funds permit,” Rama said in a press conference here.

In the past years, Rama said the city government has been giving out bonuses to its employees with good service records during the Charter Day celebration.

The city celebrates Charter Day every Feb. 24.

On Feb. 24, 1937, Commonwealth Act No. 58 was signed creating the City of Cebu.

The mayor said giving out bonuses is the city government’s way of appreciating the efforts of the city government workers in making this year’s Sinulog celebration a success.

Rama cited the support of the employees in holding the annual festival in honor of the Santo Niño at the new business district, the South Road Properties, the first time that the grand parade was done outside the past venue which was the Cebu City Sports Center in the midtown area.

In 2022, the city also cited the city hall employees’ participation in coastal and river clean-up drives which became the basis of their Charter Day bonus.

The mayor said he has to decide on the job order (JO) employees’ bonus.

The city has around 5,000 regular, casual and job order employees. (PNA)
