MANILA – Marc Pingris has resigned as the commissioner of the Pilipinas Super League (PSL).

In a statement on Monday night, the Philippine Basketball Association legend said he had a difficult time pondering his next move, especially because he had made major contributions to making the PSL's debut season a major success.

"It was a very tough decision, but I know it is the right one. I will always be grateful for the opportunity given to me," he said.

Under his leadership, Pingris instilled discipline during the PSL's maiden season, which had the Visayas-Mindanao-based Pearl of the Orient Cup and the mainly Luzon-based Dumper Cup.

He did not hesitate to impose hefty fines on erring players to serve as a lesson never to make bad fouls or unsportsmanlike moves again.

The PSL ended its inaugural season last week with Pampanga sweeping Davao Occidental in the best-of-three finals to rule the Dumper Cup.

The Tigers, who won the Pearl of the Orient Cup, failed to complete what could have been a grand slam right in the PSL's first year. (PNA)
