No. 2 Daniil Medvedev suffers early exit at French Open

ISTANBUL – Thiago Seyboth Wild, a qualifier ranked 172nd, defeated Daniil Medvedev in a five-set clash in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Brazilian beat No. 2 Medvedev with sets of 7-6, 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 after four hours and 15 minutes at Court Philippe-Chatrier.

"I mean, I've watched Daniil play for like my entire junior career until today," Seyboth Wild said after the victory. "I've always dreamed about playing on this court against these kinds of players… It’s a dream come true."

Kazakh player Elena Rybakina, who is number four in women's singles, beat Brenda Fruhvirtova of Czech Republic in straight sets in one hour and 21 minutes.

World No.1 Iga Swiatek in women's singles grabbed a straight-sets win over Spain’s Cristina Bucsa to advance to the next stage.

Also, Holger Rune, Taylor Fritz and Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the second round in men's singles. (Anadolu)
