PBBM wishes Cambodia-bound PH para athletes ‘best of luck’

MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday expressed his support for the official Philippine delegation that will participate in the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In a Facebook post, Marcos wished the Filipino para athletes luck ahead of the ASEAN Para Games scheduled from June 3 to 9.

“We wish our national para athletes the best of luck as they compete at the 12th ASEAN Para Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia!” Marcos said. “Your perseverance makes our nation proud and we rally behind you as you exemplify the true Filipino spirit.”

About 174 athletes will be part of the Philippines’ 259-strong delegation to the 12th ASEAN Para Games.

The Filipino para-athletes will compete in athletics (23), badminton (9), boccia (8), chess (22), cerebral palsy football (10), goalball (12), judo (4), powerlifting (11), sitting volleyball (14), swimming (12), table tennis (21), wheelchair basketball (23), and demonstration sport, esports (5).

In the Para Games hosted by Indonesia in 2022, the Philippines finished at fifth place with 28 golds, 30 silvers and 46 bronzes for 104 total medals. (PNA)
