ANKARA – The Philippine Embassy in Türkiye on Monday marked the island nation's 125th Independence Day.

"Today is not just the 125th anniversary of our independence day. Today is a reminder to us how far we all have come both in the Philippines and in Türkiye," acting chief of mission Juan E. Dayang Jr. said at a reception in the capital Ankara.

The Philippines and Türkiye are gearing up to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations in 2024, he added.

Also attending the reception, Esra Cankorur, director general for Asia Pacific at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, said Türkiye and the Philippines share "amicable relations" which have been developing over the years.

As a rising economy in Asia Pacific, the Philippines has become an emerging economic and trade partner for Türkye, she added.

Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and the Philippines were established on June 13, 1949.

The Turkish Embassy in Manila was opened in 1990, and the Philippine Embassy in Ankara in 1991. (Anadolu)
