Tarlac exceeds vax rate target for measles, polio

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The province of Tarlac has reached over 100 percent of its target children for measles-rubella (MR) and oral polio vaccine (OPV) inoculation.

In a report submitted by the Provincial Health Office, 13 towns of Tarlac -- Anao, Bamban, Capas, Concepcion, Gerona, Mayantoc, Moncada, Paniqui, Pura, Ramos, San Miguel, Sta. Ignacia and Victoria recorded more than 100 percent vaccination.

The towns of Camiling and La Paz, on the other hand, both recorded 100 percent vaccination rate.

Meanwhile, the towns of San Clemente and San Jose have recorded 96.9 percent and 93.4 percent, respectively while Tarlac City has a 94.9 percent vaccination rate.

Provincial health officer Jeannette Lazatin said on Thursday that a total of 128,301 children were already vaccinated, exceeding its target of 128,183.

Lazatin thanked the health workers as well as the local officials who participated in the Measles-Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccination Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) or the Chikiting Ligtas campaign.

The vaccination campaign that targeted children aged zero to 59 months old against MR and OPV which are vaccine-preventable diseases, started on May 15 and ended June 14. (PNA)
