DAVAO CITY – Presidential Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Secretary Leo Tereso Magno has been designated as the Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Southern Mindanao.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier approved the designation of his 17 CORDS appointees, including Magno, for the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to further intensify the government’s fight against insurgency.

In a statement Monday, Magno said the designation of CORDS in every region seeks to strengthen and expand the mechanisms of the NTF-ELCAC in delivering government programs and projects to promote peace, unity, and good governance in the countryside.

As a CORDS, Magno said he is tasked to assist in articulating the region’s concerns and issues with the Office of the President, the Cabinet, other departments, and other government agencies.

Likewise, he will aid the President in resolving government issues in his region, and address peace and security concerns through Regional Peace Order Councils, Cabinet Oversight Committee on Internal Security, Regional Development Councils, and local special bodies.

“I will help define priorities and projects in the region, consult with local officials and the private sector, and ensure successful implementation of government programs,” he said.

In addition, Magno will also act as a lead convenor for Presidential regional meetings and must submit reports to the President through the Executive Secretary. (PNA)
