NCR regains lead in Palarong Pambansa medal standings

MANILA – National Capital Region (NCR) won four gold medals in taekwondo and three in arnis on Friday to regain the No. 1 spot in the overall medal tally of the ongoing 2023 Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City.

Maverick Valmonte (45kg), Kurt Mykel Curata (+45kg), Felicity Jana Castel (+44kg) and Tachiana Keizha Mangin (+46kg) ruled their respective categories in the secondary division of the kyorugi taekwondo competition at the St. Scholastica Academy.

In arnis, General Tuliao claimed the gold medal in the pinweight category (43kgs to 47kgs) and Dante Alexes Padilla dominated the half lightweight category (+60kgs) in the boys’ division while Savannah Borre triumphed in the girls’ featherweight category (+44kgs) of the full contact padded stick at the Marist School covered gym.

NCR also pocketed the secondary girls’ doubles gold medal in tennis courtesy of siblings Mica Ella and Kaye Ann Emana, while Tennielle Madis (Region 12) captured the girls’ singles gold medal while Stefi Marithe Aludo (Caraga) took the silver medal.

Western Visayas bagged three gold medals coming from the elementary boys and girls, and secondary boys’ 4x100m relay in the athletics competition at the Marikina Sports Center.

As of 7:30 p.m., NCR has 67 gold medals, 64 silvers and 45 bronzes, while Western Visayas (Region 6) slid back to second place with 50 golds, 36 silvers and 31 bronzes.

Southern Tagalog (Region 4A) stayed at No. 3 with 44 golds, 47 silvers and 48 bronzes while Central Luzon (Region 3) jumped to No. 4 with 25 golds, 29 silvers and 38 bronzes.

At No. 5 is Central Visayas (Region 7) with 18 golds, 15 silvers and 26 bronzes followed by Davao (Region 11) with 18-10-17, CAR (15-16-12), Northern Mindanao (14-13-23), Soccsksargen (13-14-19), Bicol (13-13-15), Ilocos Region (8-11-17), Mimaropa (7-5-10), Eastern Visayas (3-9-12), Cagayan Valley (3-7-13), Caraga (1-6-10), Zamboanga Peninsula (1-3-8) and BARMM (1-0-3).
