La Salle, Woodrose win NCR leg of Nat'l Inter-school swimfest

MANILA – La Salle Green Hills and Woodrose School emerged overall champions in the National Capital Region (NCR) leg of the inaugural Speedo National Inter-school Swimming Championships on Oct. 7-8 at the Xavier School in San Juan City.

In a news release on Monday, La Salle Green Hills tallied 1,179 points in the boy’s division while Woodrose registered 1,092 points in the girl’s division of the tournament organized by Swim Philippines in partnership with Speedo Philippines and co-presented by Bert Lozada Swim School and MILO Philippines.

The Most Outstanding Swimmers (MOS) in the boy’s category were Juan Mateo Garcia (8 and under) and Jacob Michael Blanco (9 years old) of Ateneo; Findlay Jake Mackenzie (10 years old) of Elizabeth Seton School Main; Shoichi Suto, 11, of Xavier School; Ronald Manuel Magat, 12, of St. Joseph College-Novaliches; Aishel Cid Evangelista, 13, Jamesray Mishael Ajido, 14, Rain Andrei Tumulac, 16, and Lance Rafael Cruz, 18, of La Salle Green Hills; Gabriel Ethan Gaw, 15, of New Life Christian Academy; and Bryce Dyllan Barraza , 17, of Jubilee Christian Academy.

The MOS awardees in the girls division were Alessandra Hequibal, 8, of Montessori Academy Valenzuela; Audrina Rose Victor, 9, of Assumption Antipolo; Elyzah Shayne Son, 10, of Don Bosco School Inc.; Erin Gwyneth Monzon, 11, of St. Stephen's High School; Jamaica Summer Sy, 12, Yasmin Hillary Raveche of Paco Catholic School, 13, Sophia Isabelle Lingan, 14, and Nat Fergus, 15, of Woodrose School; Juliana Laine Lagula, 16, of St. Joseph College of Novaliches; Grace Marianne Ang, 17, of Colegio San Agustin, 17, and Amanda Therese Lerma, 18, of Beacon Academy.

The Speedo National Inter-school Swimming Championships is a platform to foster camaraderie, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among young athletes.

It aims to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and life skill development through competitive swimming and also recognizes and celebrates the dedication and hard work of these athletes within their school communities as they strive to reach their personal best.

Coach Angelo Lozada, commissioner of Speedo Inter-school NCR Leg, expressed optimism for the future of grassroots swimming in the Philippines.

"I would like to congratulate all the athletes, coaches, and schools who competed and showed their talents in swimming. I genuinely believe that this competition will play a pivotal role in enhancing the grassroots swimming program in our nation, promoting the growth and development of our aspiring swimmers and athletes," he said.
