MANILA – Many areas in the country will experience rains caused by a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the weather bureau said Friday.

The LPA that developed inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday was last seen 310 km. east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

"It has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next days. It could possibly dissipate later or Saturday," Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Benison Estareja said.

He added that the typhoon with the international name Lan remains unlikely to enter PAR.

The LPA and the southwest monsoon will cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Mindanao, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Masbate, and the northern portion of Palawan.

These areas could experience flooding or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

The rest of the country, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by the southwest monsoon or localized thunderstorms.

Luzon will have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
