FEU nails 2nd win in Men's V-League Collegiate Challenge

MANILA – Far Eastern University notched its second win at the expense of University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16, in the preliminary round of the Men's V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila on Wednesday.

Opposite hitter Zhydryx Saavedra scored 20 points, including 16 kills, while outside hitter Jelord Talisayan, who made 13 excellent receptions, added 14 points as the Tamaraws joined the Altas in third place at 2-2.

Saavedra, who also had two service aces, waxed hot in the fourth set where FEU staged a 13-6 run capped by Lirick John Mendoza’s block to wrap up the match after one hour and 52 minutes.

"We improved on our blocking and defense," said head coach Ed Orcullo, who told his players to hang tough until the end.

Opposite hitter Klint Michael Mateo finished with 13 points, 12 on attacks, for Perpetual, which absorbed a 19-25, 19-25, 15-25 loss to University of Santo Tomas last August 25.

Outside hitter Jefferson Marapoc had eight kills and two blocks, while middle blocker Michael Medalla chipped in 10 points, including three blocks.

Libero John Philip Pepito made 15 excellent receptions and 12 digs, while John Christian Enarciso made 11 excellent sets. (PNA)
