MANILA – Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines announced Thursday the cancellation of four flights between Manila and Hong Kong and Macau scheduled on Friday (Sept. 1) due to Typhoon Saola's (local name Goring) projected trajectory.

"The well-being and safety of each guest remains our paramount concern at AirAsia," the airline said in a statement, adding that they canceled flights that may be affected by anticipated extreme weather conditions.

Saola was reported to hit Hong Kong, and could possibly be the strongest to affect the special administrative region in five years.

The typhoon has been enhancing the southwest monsoon that has been causing rains and gusty winds over parts of the Philippines since early this week.

As of writing, no other local carrier announced flight cancellation on said routes.

Meanwhile, AirAsia said affected passengers were already informed of the flight cancellation.

Those affected may rebook their flight within 30 days from the original departure date on the same route for an unlimited number of times, with fare difference and subject to seat availability.

They could also opt for full refund, or have the flight booking value in their loyalty account, the airline said. (PNA)
