MANILA – The effect of the active tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on the southwest monsoon or “habagat’ has weakened, although the western section of Luzon may still experience some rainshowers, the weather bureau said Friday.

The center of the eye of Typhoon Koinu (formerly Jenny) was last tracked 385 km. west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, but its trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4:00 a.m. weather forecast.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are also forecast over Metro Manila, Zambales. Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and the rest of Ilocos Region due to the southwest monsoon affecting Luzon, PAGASA said.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, or localized thunderstorms.

Northern and Central Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough seas.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate wind conditions with slight to moderate seas.

The temperature in Metro Manila will range from 23°C to 31°C; Baguio City, 17°C to 21°C; Laoag City, 24°C to 29°C; Legazpi City, 26°C to 33°C; Metro Cebu, 27°C to 33°C; Puerto Princesa City, 26°C to 32°C; and Metro Davao, 26°C to 34°C.

No casualties from Jenny

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday said no deaths were reported from Typhoon Jenny which travesed parts of extreme Northern Luzon early this week.

No damage to agriculture and infrastructure was also reported, according to the agency's latest situation report.

A total of 247 persons residing in six barangays in Cagayan Valley and Western Visayas were affected by the typhoon.

Of this figure, only eight families are being aided outside as no evacuation centers are active as of this time. (with Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
